The NBA was the first to suspend spots in its 2020 proceedings due to Covid-19. NASCAR soon followed just a day later and postponed 8 races that occur regularly in the season. Its been 2 months since the whole suspension of sports and well, life itself. However, with the end of lockdowns, quarantines, and the rules being less strict and life somewhat slowly starting to unwind. what about sports?
As we slowly but surely begin re-entering everyday life it is evident for sports and other industries to resume. NASCAR has been the first to announce they will resume mid-May with the first race set for May 17th at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina and following events set for May 19th and 20th. Following this, The Cup Series will take place. how are they taking precautions? Firstly, there will be no fans in attendance at any of the events and this is the most major precaution of all. However, it does not stop there as Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR’s vice president and chief racing development officer has stated, “Events are going to look different than they have in the past,” said John Bobo, vice president of racing operations. “The way we travel to the event, the way we enter the event, move about in the event, the way we leave an event is going to be different.”
The NBA is said to be having trouble resuming their sporting procedures due to the amount of contact needed for the sport. However, they are allowing individual voluntary workouts that adhere to the guidelines in place. The biggest issue is to keep testing players, coaches, and staff members, it would not be a decent look if they had so much accessibility to tests but the rest of the country did not. Thus they are adamant about restarting and we have no idea when or how but it will be soon enough.
