It seems like anyone who knows anything about sports has heard about the legendary player, Kobe Bryant. The late basketball player left behind a legacy that will forever be remembered, there’s no doubt about it. During his time in the NBA, Kobe became one of the biggest superstars in the league. In fact, he was so good that he had his iconic nickname, “Black Mamba”. It was due to his incredible agility and speed while playing the game. Well, now that he’s not with us anymore, there are lots of things that people are wondering about. Will his legacy live on? Who will take his place? Will his nickname be given to someone else? Before we get into that last question, let’s take a quick look back at Kobe Bryant.
Who Was He?
Kobe was born in Philadelphia in 1978 and became one of the best basketball players in the history of the NBA. He played guard for the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 years. Known for his tough defense, vertical leap, and his ability to score winning baskets at the end of a game, he’s considered to be the best player of the 2000s. Not to mention, the best of all time.
Black Mamba
A sports academy in Southern Californa that was previously co-owned by Kobe had just retired his Black Mamba nickname and is undergoing a complete rebrand. They’re doing so to respect the player’s memory and to return to its roots, renaming itself Sports Academy again. Kobe joined this academy in 2018 and has become a home base for an NBA minor league program that will provide a year of preparation both on and off the court for some elite players. They will be those who chose not to attend college but aren’t eligible for the NBA draft just yet.
