All About Michael Strahan, The Former NFL Star And Television Host

Currently a host on Good Morning America, Michael Strahan has come a long way since the start of his career in 1993. While he started out as a player in the NFL, he is now a television host as well as a football analyst. Before he got to host Good Morning America, he co-hosted Live! with Kelly and Michael from 2012 to 2016. In fact, he won two Daytime Emmy Awards for that. All the same, there is so much more to the star than meets the eye. Let’s delve into some amazing facts about the retired football player!

15-Year Career

In his youth, Strahan was a weightlifter. Coupled with his skills on the field, this led to his ability to obtain a football scholarship at Texas Southern University. From then, he competed in lower-division college football. He even set a school record! In 1993, he was selected by the New York Giants in the NFL draft. And so, he began his successful 15-year NFL career.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame

In 2014, years after his retirement from the NFL in 2008, Strahan was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It’s no surprise, seeing as he had a Superbowl win under his belt, had been named NFL’s Defense Player of the Year in 2001, and led his team to victory on so many different occasions.

Exclusive Clothing Line

It seems Strahan has an eye for business. In 2015, he launched a men’s clothing line that was sold exclusively through J.C. Penney. It featured everything from suits to casual wear and more. Strahan described the line as “both stylish and affordable”.

Family Ties

While he was born in Texas, Strahan lived in Germany as a child due to his father’s military career. However, when his father realized his potential in football, he sent Strahan to his uncle in Texas. Said uncle just so happened to be the retired professional NFL player, Arthur Strahan. That’s when Strahan got his scholarship to University.

A Generous Soul

Like many other celebrities and public figures, Michael Strahan is generous with his funds. In 2002, he began a project to raise money for the Junior League programs Children At Risk and HomeCorp. What the foundation does is help low-income people achieve homeownership. To do so, he redid his house and allowed strangers to walk through it for a month. It was a month-long fundraiser. Essentially, people would come in a redecorate however they wanted to – even paint the walls. None of it would be Strahan’s, but when the project came to an end, he would have the option to keep what he wanted for a cost. All the proceedings would go to the cause.

When, Not If

Michael Strahan is without a doubt a hard worker. He got his amazing work ethic from his father, Gene Strahan. He’d had a long career in the military that took their family all over the world, but it also showed the kids how to persevere and work hard. Strahan had said in the past that his father used to tell him “When, not it” often. It’s a powerful saying that stuck with him throughout his life. Seeing his incredibly successful career, it looks like Michael implemented it well.
